How to play Russian Solitaire

Start Russian Solitaire by looking at the playing area and its controls. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Look at what changes after your first action.

Yukon-style deal, same-suit building, no stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Step by step

  1. Move any face-up card and its tail onto the next higher rank of the same suit. Kings fill empty columns.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Read the example below alongside these instructions.

A useful example

A heart 6 fits a heart 7, not a spade 7. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Read the matching step again.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow.
